What To Do With All That Stuff

Many apartment buildings in NYC are now putting a clothing recycling bin somewhere in the lobby. This is a really easy way to get rid of clothes after you've cleaned out your closet. However, if you bring your clothing to goodwill, salvation army, housing works, etc and donate it you can write off the donation come April 15th (as long as you get a receipt).
Another option is to sell items on ebay or bring things to a consignment store. I would suggest doing this with items that have never been worn (and still have the store tag) or very expensive, high end, designer pieces.
I am compiling a list of websites and locations of consignment shops (sometimes it is best to go to consignment shops outside Manhattan, depending on what you have to sell), I will post this list when I think it is complete. I am sure it will be helpful for me to reference at some point in the future...

One In One Out

My best friend moved from New York to Santa Monica to live with her boyfriend. When she and her superfluity of things arrived in California, surprise, surprise, there was not enough space. Among other things, her boyfriend implemented a new rule to keep the closet manageable. Every time she purchased something new, she had to select something to get rid of. They call it the 'One in one out' rule.  I think it is a good rule to live by if you want to keep an orderly closet. I am going to try to follow that from now on.

The Biggest Project: Cleaning Out My Closet

There is one item that has been on my To Do list for over two years, but I am yet to fully complete this task. "Clean Out Your Closet" I guess it is not so much a task as a huge & painful undertaking. However, I have decided that I want more organization in my life and I am going to start by taming the beast that is my closet. I just have to create a plan of attack because I know I cannot do the entire thing in one day. As soon as I know exactly how I am going to go about this project I know I will start and hopefully it.
